‘An impressive sense of place, and language which is alive and supple.’
– Nicky Harlow
‘A fascinating new voice from Scotland.’
– Gabriele Haefs
‘My third winner was ‘Shifting sands’ by Christine Cochrane, which is set in South Uist and Benbecula, where wild weather and the sea govern the characters’ movements. This story has the dream-like intensity of myth. The title of this story really works, both literally and metaphorically.’
– Jane Rogers, Mslexia short story competition 2014
